If you manage a non-profit organization, you won’t want to miss this informative seminar. Get the facts from lawyers that have worked with non-profits for decades and are knowledgeable in the issues facing them in today’s environment. Be part of the conversation and enjoy lunch with your peers and colleagues.

We are lining up some big names for the panel discussion, so you’ll want to check back here often to get all the updates as they happen.

The agenda for the seminar is as follows:

We all hear a lot about crowdfunding and how much it can do for non-profits, but how much of that is hype, and what does it take to get a crowdfunding campaign in motion, let alone successful?  This session will cover the state of crowdfunding and some basic legal and logistical considerations for getting a campaign launched.  But most importantly, we’ll discuss the importance of “why” – for you, for your donors, and for your organization and its mission.  Takeaways will include:

  • Recent campaigns that were successful, and what factors contributed to that success;
  • Key legal, financial and logistical considerations for whether and how to launch a campaign, including terms and conditions of contracts with platforms and social media sites; and
  • Finding your “why,” and putting it to use in your branding and marketing, to put your organization and your campaign in the best position to succeed.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of non-profit organizations. However, volunteers cannot be managed or controlled the way an employee can. By using volunteer guidelines, background checks, and smart management, an NPO can protect itself against well-intentioned, but wayward volunteers. These same types of procedures should also be utilized for employees. They include:

  • Drafting basic employee and volunteer guidelines.
  • Recognizing special situations where volunteers must either be managed, or background checks must be employed.
  • Insurance considerations when dealing with volunteers
  • Cautionary tales with solutions

In the words of Russell Ackoff, “managers do things right…leaders do the right things.”  Strategic planning has become a bit of a buzz word, but in today’s economy and social/political environment, it is more important than ever. In this panel discussion, you will have the opportunity to hear experienced non-profit leaders share their thoughts on strategic planning and leadership, and how it has evolved in recent years.

  • Building blocks of a strategic plan, and which blocks should be your highest priority
  • How to get started, and how to stay on track – communication, delegation and execution.
  • Getting buy-in from staff, and getting them from 3rd gear to 5th
  • What keeps top non-profit execs up at night, and their strategies for handling uncertainty

Space is limited. Please register by September 1st to secure your seat. The cost for attendees is $15 per person, with lunch provided.
